Mindset

Where values and beliefs shape our world

Magical Mindset Preschool is the first of its kind. We recognize the power of mindset and its important role in creating children with a strong sense of self-worth. Children with a high self-worth are happier, more confident, can better handle change, and are able to work through challenges easier than those with a lower self-worth.

Here at Magical Mindset Preschool, we create a community of learners that know the importance of connection. A connection to oneself through emotional awareness and acceptance. A connection towards others through compassion, and a connection to the natural world through understanding and respect. We foster these values by teaching and modeling the importance of gratitude, personal boundaries, the power of thoughts and words, and how to love and accept ourselves.

Social- Emotional intelligence is at the core of mindset and we teach kids the tools needed to be confident individuals, so when they grow up and face real life challenges, they are able to approach them with a growth mindset and learn that each challenge is an opportunity for growth.

Mindset is thoughtfully incorporated in all that we do, for example our morning circle is done outside. During morning circle, we encourage children to remove their shoes and to sit barefoot on the Earth to receive the powerful benefits of grounding from the Earth's electromagnetic energy. Grounding has been proven to improve the immune system, elevate one's mood, lower inflammation and help with a better night's sleep.

In circle time we may read a book on mindfulness, discuss what makes us happy, give gratitude for those in the class, observe nature or talk about what makes a good friend.

Mindfulness is a big part of our eating routine as well. In addition to having the children grow the food, wash it, and help prepare the meals, we teach children how to be mindful when they eat. We start by giving gratitude for our food in the form of a simple affirmation "Thank you for this food, may it nourish my body, and keep me healthy".  As we eat, we practice eating mindfully, meaning we chew our food slowly and intently as well as practice manners.

At Magical Mindset Preschool we teach children the value of their emotions and that all emotions are a tool that we can use to help us grow and learn. Through discussion, modeling respectful behavior, and fun games we teach children that it is safe to feel their emotions and that it is okay to "Let it flow and let it go".

All of our growth mindset and self-worth building activities and presented in a fun and engaging way that is age appropriate for the kids. Positive mindset is engrained in our values, and it is sprinkled in throughout the day as we as teachers' model what it means to have a high sense of worth. For example, when we hear a student say " I can't go down the slide because I will get hurt", we say "how can I go down the slide, so I feel safe".

We are passionate and proud to teach students the power of mindset and how to use it to be happy and healthy individuals physically, mentally, and spiritually. We are raising the collective consciousness and it starts here at Magical Mindset.

Nature

Where respecting nature means respecting ourselves

At Magical Mindset preschool we believe that time spent in nature is the most therapeutic and beneficial learning environment for children. Being in nature allows children time to explore the world around them. They make discoveries, connections, and learn to respect the planet all of its inhabitants.

Most of our day is spent outside. Our home is located in west Petaluma on two beautiful acres of land. Kids have the freedom to play and explore all that nature has to offer. In addition to self-exploration, we guide kids in different ecology lessons. Some of the activities we do include birding with binoculars, insect scavenger hunts, plant identification, and gardening.

The garden is a very special part of our preschool. The students at Magical Mindset Preschool get to be a part of the planting of vegetables, harvesting, cooking, and eating. The food from our garden is grown organically and with love. We then use this food to make nutritious and seasonal organic meals for our students. Some of the many wonderful offerings we grow in the garden include, corn, zucchini, spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, beets, carrots, green beans, cabbage, tomatoes, watermelon, cantaloupe, cucumber, chard, kale, and much more!

In addition to hands on exploration in nature, we teach children the importance of taking care of the planet. The planet is a macrocosm of our bodies and we teach the value of respecting the planet and our bodies.

Play Based

Where magic is curiosity and the freedom to play

At Magical Mindset Preschool we believe that children learn best through play. When given unstructured time to play and explore, kids will discover what they are passionate about. Their excitement means that they are engaged and learning.

The majority of our day at Magical Mindset Preschool allows children the freedom to play and learn how they choose. Although we offer many great lessons and activities, children have the option to participate or to explore as they choose. When leading lessons on ecology and playing a group game or soccer, the teachers are divided so that the students who find interest in the activity can participate while those who wish to explore their own interests can do so as well with the guidance of the other teacher.

Play based education is important for students to develop social and emotional skills, creativity, motor skills, and problem solving.

Enrichment

Where variety means discovering new passions

We offer a variety of enrichment opportunities so your child can learn, have fun, and discover new interests. Children are encouraged to try new things but are never forced to do something they don't want to do.
